The Town of Niverville has committed to upgrading the 3rd Avenue lift station and to building a new force main to accommodate growth on the west end of town.

Mayor Myron Dyck says anytime there is significant development in town, engineering studies are conducted to make sure there is enough water and sewage capacity.

"As a result of the high school development and the additional lots for Sunset developers, the studies revealed that the force main going to the lagoon was at capacity meaning that a new force main would have to be built. We are also seeing some improvements done into the core of our town at our third street lift station which will assist with being able to bring on additional infill development."

Dyck says there are plans to build new lift stations for the new high school and for development in the Highlands but those projects are the responsibility of the developers.

"Generally with new development, the developers are paying each for their lift station and their share of that force main. The town will have some cost for the upgrades so that we can look at future infill development."

The cost of engineering design for the 3rd Avenue lift station upgrades and the new force main is $90,000 and the developers will cover $69,194 of that cost. Dyck says council has agreed to move forward with the design work.
