The third annual Ricky Cup ball hockey tournament in Marchand was a success on Saturday despite the rain and snow.

Organizer Dave Gagnon says eight teams participated in the tournament this year from as far as Winnipeg. He says the annual tournament is very special to him.

"We started three years ago, a friend of ours passed away and we wanted to honour him and we started a ball hockey tournament, we donate our funds to the community. There is the core group of us that put it on, it is pretty important to us and hits home. It is special."

Gagnon says the weather was not ideal, but the tournament went ahead anyway.

"The first game it was alright and then the clouds rolled in, it started raining and the rink just takes the water on and then it started snowing and it got slippery. We got the water pumped out. It stopped raining so the cement is drying up and we are good to go now."

Gagnon says Donny's Septic helped out by pumping the water off of the rink so they could continue the tournament. He notes after the tournament finished they held a social at the Marchand Community Club.

Gagnon says all of the proceeds from the day are going to local charities and a portion will go to the Breakfast for Learning program at Arborgate School in La Broquerie. He adds they provide breakfast to students who need it.
