One mile of Hanover Road will be rebuilt this summer. It is the stretch from Road 30E to 31E, two miles south of Mitchell.

The Rural Municipality of Hanover received five bids for the project. They ranged in price from $352,200 to $494,600.

Fast Brothers had the low bid, which ended up being slightly more than the estimated cost of $340,000. But Reeve Stan Toews explains the project was budgeted two years ago, which explains why it will cost more than expected.

This project has been in the works for about three years now. Toews says each year it got delayed because of great quotes they received on other projects. But he says the work is necessary.

"It's a road that has a lot of traffic," he says. "There's soft spots and frost boils and so what we do is we dig out all the bad stuff and we put in geotextile plus two feet of granular fill."

Toews says Fast Brothers is expected to start this project later in summer. He notes half the cost will be covered from Hanover funds, with the remaining coming from their Gas Tax Reserve.
