Crews have begun working on a number of paving projects here in the City of Steinbach.

Kyle Shymko is Steinbach’s Head Engineer. He says the entirety of Penfeld Drive is receiving a facelift this year.

"We are milling off the top layer and replacing it with a new asphalt surface and they are doing the curb work too. The project is obviously underway, they have started removing the curb, and gutter and driveways and they are going to do the concrete parts first and we expect the asphalt will get milled and renewed and should be done by mid-July."

Penfeld Drive construction should wrap up mid-JulyShymko says Park Road East will also be resurfaced this year, but only when the Clearspring Greens Pathway is complete.

"So they have got that path excavated right now and we expect that the pathway will be complete probably early or mid-July and then they will move onto the street. The street is a fairly straightforward project similar to Penfeld. We are just milling and putting a new surface on it so there will be disruptions on Park Road but access to the golf course and to the aquatic centre will be maintained."

Park Road East will be resurfaced from where it turns to two lanes all the way to Laing Gate.

Shymko says with the Fly-in driving range right next door, crews working on the Clearspring Greens Pathway have to keep an eye out for golf balls, but the contractor hasn't expressed much concern over this.

"The idea is that they are going to get the path up and I think the posts for the fence are going in right away and once that fence is up, the pathway area will be protected. It is a chain-link fence, but it has smaller gaps in the links so golf balls shouldn't be able to get their way through there."

Meanwhile, motorists will have noticed the start of Brandt Street construction. Though that work is largely underground infrastructure renewal, the most westerly lane will need to be dug up and replaced. Shymko says that project will extend right into August.
