After a lot of hard work, Cultures In The City vendors are back at it with more great foods and performances from around the world.

Aileen Indon with the South Eastman Filipino Association says they began planning for the festival back in April. She notes with the help of many volunteers, they prepare all of their food ahead of time.

"Monday we got it marinaded with the help of our volunteers and SEMFA officers and Wednesday we started putting it on sticks, like skewering. We also precook them in the oven. For precooking we make sure it is 160 degrees Fahrenheit before we take them out and then we store them in the fridge."

Indon says this year they prepared 800 pounds of pork for their Filipino barbecue tent. She notes they chose barbecue skewers because it is a very common and well-loved street food in the Philippines and they want to really show people in southeastern Manitoba the spirit of their home country.

Kiko Altre with the SEMFA notes from start to finish they have approximately 60 volunteers help with food preparation as well as running the tent at Cultures in the City. He notes it is an honour to share the taste of the Philippines.

"It means a lot to us, definitely the Filipino community. We get to showcase our barbecue, we want to let everyone experience what we experience back home and the taste that we usually taste in the Philippines and we are glad to share that with everybody."

Altre adds Cultures In The City also acts as a fundraiser for SEMFA so that they can continue reaching out to Filipino people in the community.
