Environment Canada reports Steinbach received more than three times the normal amount of rain during September. Steinbach recorded 189 millimetres, or almost eight inches, of rain during the month. Forecaster Natalie Hasell says total precipitation on average during September in Steinbach is 57 millimetres, or just over two inches. Hasell adds they do not have long term historical data for Steinbach but shares the numbers for Winnipeg.

"The wettest year for Winnipeg was 1872 at 156.2 millimetres and this year, September got 153.1 millimetres. So this year is the second-wettest September in Winnipeg."

Hazel notes the 189 millimetres received in Steinbach well exceeds that all time record for Winnipeg.

She explains there were two weather systems that brought much of the rain.

"Both of them were Colorado Low-like storms. These stuck around, they were long-lived events and, unfortunately, the result of these long-lived events often, if you have embedded convection as well, which we did in both cases, means that some places get a really large amount of precipitation."

Hasell says there is not much drying weather in the forecast over the next few days, but adds it appears some warmer, drier weather could arrive this weekend.
