With the snow and rain this spring, it will take a while for the Eastman Raiders to play on their football field at A.D. Penner Park in Steinbach.

Club President Gavin Don says the field needs more time before it’s ready for action.

“I have visited the field and last time I was there, maybe a week or so ago, there was still considerable snow on it, and you know it's wet and we just simply couldn't play on that field in its condition at the moment," he says. "It would just do too much damage and we wouldn't have a good field for the actual summer season.”

The Raiders football field on Friday morning. Very soggy to walk on and there were still patches of snow.

While they wait for the field to dry up, the club is busy with registration.

“We've opened registration now for our MMFA tackle season,” Don says. “That’s the season that runs through the summer into late October. We've already had a reasonable response. We've got 26 players registered already. Obviously, we need a lot more. So yeah, head over to the website and register. We're also planning a spring camp just to brush off the cobwebs that the players have got over the winter there, so we'll be announcing that on the website in the next couple of days.”

He confirms that spring camp will take place indoors while they wait for the field to dry out.

When it comes to tackle football, Don encourages parents to connect with the Raiders club if they have any questions about the sport and safety surrounding the game.
