Fall suppers are well under way in the Southeast, and many communities hold them as a way to raise money and bring people in the community together to celebrate the harvest season.

Leanne Germain Pansy Hall President at the Fall Supper 2016.

There have been fall suppers at the Pansy hall for many years but this year, committee members and volunteers served up a large variety of Ukrainian dishes to over 1,600 people.

Leanne Germain is the hall President, she says people come from all over. “Our numbers keep increasing every year. We have a large following from surrounding communities, many groups come from Winnipeg, and from outside of the province as well.”

Germain adds people love the food as much as the cooks are passionate about preparing it. She says they have a small group of hard working individuals that make it all happen.

“We usually start about three months in advance, some of it can be frozen like perogies. We set goals for ourselves so we're not overwhelmed on that actual weekend. We have everything lined up and ready to go so when it's time we are going.”

Germain says people love their food and so they keep coming back. She says the positive response from phone calls and emails is overwhelming. “We keep doing it because people love our food, it keeps communities together, and it's a huge fundraiser for our non-profit organization, it keeps us going throughout the year. It's a spectacular event if you haven't seen it.”

The hall seats approximately 365 people, Germain adds, they were at capacity in the hall and had to set up tables and chairs outside to accommodate the steady flow of people that kept coming from 1-6 pm.

She notes, two years ago they raised enough money to pay for a kitchen renovation of about $80,000.
