A dirt bike incident near the Marchand Provincial Park has sent one man to hospital.

La Broquerie fire chief Alain Nadeau says they were called in shortly before 1 p.m. to assist the paramedics with transporting the man who was approximately five-kilometres off the main road.

"We had to go with our ATV and get the person out of the bush," explains Nadeau. "We have an ATV that we can carry a stretcher on it. It was built and bought exactly for a purpose like that. We go in with the ambulance attendants and we get the person out."

Nadeau says the man hit a tree while riding his dirt bike and sustained non-life threatening injuries to his pelvic area so he couldn't walk or ride his bike, adding, luckily, there were two friends with him who could go for help.

"His friends came and called the ambulance, wherever they could get service. Then once EMS could not get in, they called us in to assist."

He notes when out in the bush, it's always best to go with others, know where you are and how to get back, as well as have a phone to call for help.

Crews were on scene for about an hour.
