Niverville town council held a special public hearing for their proposed zoning bylaw this week.

Mayor Myron Dyck says this new zoning bylaw is particularly important as Niverville has grown by 340 acres through an annexation since the last zoning bylaw was passed in 2008. He says there are a number of changes in the new bylaw.

"First of all, reducing the number of zones (categories), we weren't even using some of the zones currently so it just streamlines that a little bit more. We changed some of the nomenclatures so instead of having R1 or R2 to delineate single family or multi-family, we have gone to terms like low-density medium-density, and then given description to that. We have also seen some reduction in the frontage of some of the zones just to look at what the current housing market is doing."

be required."

Dyck says after a good discussion, council decided to table the bylaw and do second reading at a later date.

"In light of the things that were asked here today, council thought that there were enough items that needed more information and we needed another opportunity to think about this, to discuss this some more, and to say 'which changes should be forthcoming based on what was recommended and which ones may not be recommended and then give reasons why or why not to accept or to reject and so that is going to be done over the next couple weeks."

Councillor Nathan Dueck was the only one to oppose the motion to table second reading.

Dyck says if they make any major changes to the proposed zoning bylaw, they will hold another public hearing before giving second reading.
