The Niverville Heritage Centre unveiled the name of their new medical clinic at their tenth annual gala on Saturday.

Gordon Daman is the spokesperson for the Niverville Heritage Centre board. He says the new 5,000 square foot clinic will be called Open Health Niverville. He notes the name really highlights what the new primary care clinic is all about.

"There was very much the effort to be able to partner with the primary health care centre, that was here in the region, along with direct health care service delivery to bring practitioners together, from nurse practitioners to docs to mental health care workers to even home care, bringing them all together so that there would be a one-stop shop for health care in the community so it is open health care."

Daman says Open Health Niverville will all be integrated into one streamlined space. He notes everyone who visits the clinic will use the same waiting room which will allow the care they are seeking to remain private. He notes this will help reduce stigmas withing the healthcare system.

Daman says all of the money they raised at the gala will go towards extra improvements that will make Open Health Niverville special.

"That is all going directly to tenant improvements into Open Health to ensure we have those additional amenities within Open Health to provide those services for clients coming in. Whether it is appropriate wait area, or whether it is space for meeting between a health care professional and the staff, once folks see the design they will say wow this is unbelievable."

Daman says Dr. Chris Burnett who is one of the founders of the Niverville Primary Health Care Team was instrumental in helping Open Health Niverville become a reality.

Dr. Burnett says the new clinic was really driven by a need for more space. He says in addition to creating an integrated primary care clinic to serve the community they hope this new space will attract more doctors to Niverville for the future. He says rather then having a set number of doctors on from 9-5, they can have doctors come in for set times.

"What we are hoping is that we can actually look at people who can come out and do a few shifts in the morning, maybe do a few mornings a week, go back and do their other jobs, then somebody might want to do evenings, and from what we are hearing that might be more attractive to some of the new physicians coming out."

Dr. Burnett says the community has been incredibly supportive of them and that was especially visible at the gala. He notes what stood out was all of the stories of people stepping forward to help and make the Niverville Heritage Centre and all of it's many services possible. He adds Humorist Bill Carr also made an excellent keynote speaker.
