Mckenzie Avenue in Steinbach between Highway #12 and Lilac Bay will be re-opened around July 31st. It has been closed since early May for reconstruction. Phil Kalyta, the city's head engineer, says construction crews are down to the final touches.

"They have finished the concrete work now and after the concrete cures, they will be able to put the last of the asphalt patching down on Highway #12 and then they can finish the landscaping. It will probably be another week-and-a-half yet. We're hoping to open at the end of July, once everything is 100 per cent."

Kalyta notes the project got about a week behind because construction projects all over the province wanted the concrete machines and crews around the same time. But he adds the contractor made up the time this past week.

The project involved removing the old asphalt roadway and replacing it with concrete so the street can handle heavier loads.
