Many University of Manitoba students will be studying through the Christmas break this year as exams have been moved to January.

Mitchell Resident Dana Lambert says two of her three classes at the U of M this semester were put on hold for the three week strike. She notes classes are now back on but the strike has affected the Christmas season.

“Usually we would have classes over by December 2nd or something and exams before Christmas, the Christmas break is sort of between the two semesters. Now with the strike, they're classes are going right up until I think it's December 21st or 22nd and then our exams start right after the Christmas break.”

Lambert says with exams in the new year it will be hard to relax and really enjoy the Christmas break.

“I'm planning on bringing my homework to family gatherings and stuff like that because you just can't forget about it for a few weeks. For me personally, I will feel a little more detached from the Christmas season.”

Lambert the new semester will start they day after exams end in January. She says despite the shifted schedule the winter semester will have a reading week as normal.
