A construction zone on PTH 75 has caught the attention of R.M. of Morris officials.

Of particular concern is the intersection of PR 205 and PTH 75 east of Rosenort where, according to officials, there have been 5 vehicle collisions and countless close-calls since work started in the area this summer.

Reeve Ralph Groening says these incidents have forced Council to take action.

A request has been submitted to Manitoba Infrastructure (MI) to lower the already-reduced speed limit from 80 km/h to 60 km/h at that trouble-spot. According to minutes taken at the most recent council meeting, R.M. of Morris Fire Chief Trevor Dackow has contacted MI to suggest lowering the speed limit for half a kilometre on either side of PR 205.

Additionally, Dackow plans to contact the construction company's safety officer to see if shorter traffic cones would reduce the risk of collisions.

Groening adds Morris/Emerson Area RCMP will also conduct additional monitoring of the stretch. Meantime, Dackow and Sgt. Jason Vrooman, Detachment Commander for the Morris/Emerson RCMP, also pan to meet with Manitoba Infrastructure to discuss the various options to ensure public safety.

"We advise people to be careful," added Groening.
