The Rural Municipality of Hanover is undertaking a feasibility study to determine what to do with some of its recreation facilities.

Recreation Manager Lisa Baldwin says facilities are very expensive and they want to make sure they make responsible choices. Hanover has two arenas and both of these will be part of the

(Mitchell arena)study, as will the need for a potential community centre in Blumenort.

Baldwin says in terms of the Grunthal arena, there are two options.

"Some people feel just take it down, let's build a new one," she says. "Some people feel that's not the best way to go."

Baldwin says in order to make that decision, they need to do research, gather data, find out what residents want and whether or not it is feasible and manageable.

In Mitchell, there is talk of expanding the arena. Baldwin says they need more dressing rooms and lobby space.

"We need to do our homework," says Baldwin. "We need to understand what residents need, is there additional space that's required, is there meeting space that's needed, what are residents looking for and then make decisions based on the data that we collect."

As for Blumenort, Baldwin says there has been talk of a community centre but before they spend millions of dollars she says they need to know who will manage and maintain the building after it has been built.

Baldwin says the feasibility study will start in November. She notes they hope to have it wrapped in spring, in time for next year's budget. Baldwin says they are working with Stantec to gather community input through a variety of ways, which could include community consultations and surveys.
