Council for the Rural Municipality of Hanover has said 'no' to a proposed subdivision southwest of Mitchell.

Kleefeld Developments had hoped to develop 26 rural residential lots south of Road 34N and west of Road 30E. They would have been two acre, unserviced lots.

(Abe Bergen of Kleefeld Developments meets with Hanover Council.)At a public hearing, neighbours voiced concern, suggesting the subdivision would create more dust, could impact water pressure in their wells and turn bush into swampland.

Councillor Travis Doerksen made the motion to deny the application, suggesting the subdivision would hinder expansion of nearby farms.

"We are getting too close to large farms," says Doerksen. "I am pro-development but needs to be in a better spot."

Hanover Reeve Stan Toews voted in favour of the subdivision. He says some of that land can not be farmed anyway.
