A grass fire burned out of control Sunday morning on the western outskirts of Blumenort. The call came down around 10:45 am.

Steinbach Assistant Deputy Fire Chief Mike Penner says there were no structures in any danger. Penner says because of the location of the fire they could not get their trucks close and instead battled the blaze with water backpacks and brooms. They also used leaf blowers, which Penner says is used to push the fire back on itself and in that way reduce the amount of fuel available.

Penner says the cause of the fire was not immediately known.

He reminds people that if you must burn, burn with caution. He says it is also wise to keep a water source nearby.
