GORP Clean Energy Bar is headed to the Oscars. Owner/Founder Colleen Dyck of Niverville says she is off to Los Angeles this weekend where her product will be presented in the Celebrity Luxury Gifting Suite to over 150 celebrities.

Dyck is going with Manitoba Chef Peter Fehr of Gourmet Inspirations. She recalls Fehr approached her awhile back, asking if she would be interested in teaming up for a made in Manitoba package at this event. Dyck was interested and after a screening process and a sizeable entry fee, the two are Hollywood bound.

2017 02 gorp2(Colleen Dyck with Peter Fehr)Over 150 celebrities, who will be attending the Academy Awards, will arrive at the Luxury Gifting Suite on Saturday to taste Dyck's unique energy bars. There will be opportunities for photos and possible collaborations.

"I wasn't sure if this was the right thing for my company or not," admits Dyck. She notes they are a small company and the cost to attend takes a big chunk out of their annual budget.

"But I really think it's going to be worth it," she says. "You never know as a small company where you're putting your precious dollars and if it's going to pay back or not."

Dyck says it is difficult for GORP to increase its awareness in the United States. She adds they just got their U.S. packaging printed and thinks this might be the perfect opportunity.

Dyck says there will be 50 companies represented at the event and only two from Manitoba.

"We're going to represent Canada as best we can and Manitoba," says Dyck, referring to GORP and Gourmet Inspirations. "We asked for our booths to be beside each other, so the Canadians can stick together."

Dyck has hired a photographer, who has guaranteed to take 300 pictures. Those pictures can be used for their marketing and on social media. Dyck says it is their social media presence which she hopes benefits the most through this experience. She is also hopeful for some opportunities with American retailers.

"I really think the value is there," she says. "Either way I think it's going to be super fun."

According to Dyck, they have no idea who the celebrities are that will be showing up on Saturday. But she is most hoping that Canadian Actor Ryan Gosling will visit her booth. Gosling is up for Best Actor on Sunday for his role in La La Land.

GORP Clean Energy Bar is an all natural energy bar made in Niverville.
