The couple that is transforming a former Kleefeld Church building into their home, says this isn't the first time they've attempted this type of outside the box project.

Bethany and Kevin Funk purchased the building which is being moved to their new property just north of Sarto. Crews started the two-day moving process Thursday with hopes of reaching the final destination by the end of the day Friday.

Bethany says her husband Kevin is a builder by day and together, they take on DIY projects in the evenings. She explains one day as she was passing by the church, she noticed the for sale sign and instantly came up with the ambitious idea of converting it into a house. Funk says she loves home designing and points out they are going with an open floor plan for the 2,100 square foot main floor. She adds they have most of their plans all laid out

"It'll have a beautiful galley-style kitchen, we're going to be doing a dining room at the back kind of where the stage was."

Funk notes the main floor will also include the master bedroom and bathroom as well as a large living room. She says the building's second-floor balcony will be converted into bedrooms for their four children.

Funk says the price they paid for the building does not compare to the moving costs and adds it is definitely nerve-wracking watching it roll down the highway.

"At the same time, I'm looking at it and just putting myself in kind of a box where I'm telling myself 'I'm just watching and I'm just here for the show,' and just trying to remove myself from the ownership aspect of it," she indicates "otherwise, it's a bit daunting."

Hydro outages in the Kleefeld and Sarto areas are expected throughout the moving process as crews have to cut lines in order to make way for the house. Manitoba Hydro says outages on Friday will occur between 8am and 4:30pm but for a maximum of three hours.

After a short distance on Provincial Road 216, movers headed west on Road 35N and Funk says a majority of the route would be country roads.
