After being shut down for a day and a half, due to technical difficulties, the Steinbach splash park has been repaired and is fully operational.

Two days ago People in Steinbach who are looking to beat the heat have one less option, temporarily. The splash park next to the Jake Epp Library is temporarily out of commission. Russ Dyck, head of Parks and Recreation, says the problem is due to some very unusual circumstances.

"We had an issue about a week ago or so. We believe it might have been hit by a power surge so we had some electronic issues and we weren't able to access the control panel. It was still operating at the time. We got a new control panel in and it wasn't programmed correctly so we weren't able to get the splash park going yesterday (Tuesday). It's still down today but we are expecting a part any time today. We had ordered one out of Montreal, a new electronic controller. We should be able to get it going in fairly short order once we get the part, hopefully, later today."

Dyck says the splash park equipment is generally reliable but a suspected power surge fried something in the electronics.
