A candidate for Reeve in the RM of De Salaberry says one of his priorities is to work on the municipality's finances.

Darrel Cure just served his first term as a councillor and is now prepared to take on the role of reeve. Cure says council has been working diligently to align the municipality's finances in recent years in order to be prepared for future large capital purchases.

"I want to keep improving the utilities in the communities of De Salaberry," notes Cure as he lists some of his visions, "I would also like to introduce a five-year plan to rebuild some of the infrastructure like sidewalks for active living."

Cure adds another priority is to provide adequate fire protection throughout the municipality which he says the current council has already been hard at work doing.

The RM of De Salabery is mixed with a lot of agricultural land as well as multiple towns such as St. Malo, Otterburne, Dufrost. Cure explains he would like to promote development while still protecting prime farmland.

"Current council has always had a protection against productive agricultural land," says Cure, "we have to keep that because once it's gone, that's not coming back. We do encourage growth in urban centres. I think that's where it's mostly responsible, it's easy to offer services. We do have some growth as well outside of urban centres but more so on non-favourable land for farming."

Cure says he would also like to improve roads and drains noting council has completed multiple paving projects in the last few years and would like to continue on that path.

Current Reeve Marc Marion announced he is not seeking re-election. Cure is running against Marie Lefevre who we have reached out to but has been unavailable for comment.
