Niverville town council has approved a contract for phase two of the reconstruction of Sixth Avenue, the main road along the east side of the community. Mayor Myron Dyck says they will spend about a quarter-of-a-million dollars on the project this summer.

"Right now the roadbed has a lot of silt underneath it, it's not a proper roadbed. Last year, half of the road was dug out and a proper base put in with geotextile. This year, we're doing the second half of that road, digging it out, putting in the geotextile and then the plan would be for phase three, to pave that road, next year."

Fast Brothers of Blumenort won the contract for this year's work with a bid of $274,000. He says they will get started in spring after the frost is out of the ground.

Dyck says this is a well-used road and the upgrade will be worth it.

"It is our eastern border of our community at this particular time and it's a road that is highly used by Fifth Avenue Estates' Residents."
