The construction of the new Niverville School is right on schedule.

Hanover School Division Superintendent Randy Dueck says they are still eyeing construction of phase one to be complete by the end of July or early August of 2019 so they can open the doors for the start of the school year in September.

"It’s doing great. It’s right on time, there are piles that have been driven, there are grade beams that have been poured. Nothing is terribly fancy, you don’t really see much above the ground yet, we’re doing a lot of below the surface kind of work right now, developing and building the foundation for what the school will grow on. I would anticipate that probably by the end of June, we’ll start seeing walls going up."

Dueck adds they have also welcomed some student input in regards to this project and says it was safety that was on their minds. Dueck notes the Niverville Collegiate Institute Parent Advisory Council met and invited some students to share their thoughts.

"One of the features of that, is that we had some students there that really want to talk about safety around the new school and as everybody is aware, we’ve got a railroad track that runs through the town of Niverville and it’s of great concern to us that we’re able to work together with the Town of Niverville and maybe CP Rail to develop a really safe railroad crossing there so we don’t ever have to worry about or be talking about some kind of a tragedy that happens at those tracks."

Dueck says they would not be the ones doing the construction of whatever is put into place but notes they certainl[y want to advocate for student safety.
