Steinbach City Council was recently presented with preliminary drawings showing extensive development plans for the south end of town.

Council gave first reading to a bylaw which, if passed, would see Harmony Lane extended and a chunk of land south of Chrysler Gate and west of Harmony Lane rezoned from Development Reserve to Single-Family and Low-Density Residential. With the first reading done, a public hearing will now be scheduled for early March.

Along with that Bylaw, council got their first look at the grand scale plans for the area. Councillor Jake Siemens was happy to see the drawings.

"That's one of the first times that I have seen a whole conceptual plan of that whole area and that is good to see that there has been that type of planning going into it."

The renderings show how the Harmony Lane development could eventually connect to the Southland Community and extend south to Hanover Road and west to Hespeler Street South.
