An upgrade project for the T.G. Smith Arena in Steinbach was among the topics discussed at Friday's Open Door.

Deputy Mayor Jac Siemens says the silver ceiling currently in the arena was installed in 1992 and will be replaced this summer.

"The discussion with Russ Dyck was about the arena upgrades that are happening this summer. They're [also] going to be replacing all the lights. They're going with the new LED lights. They'll be savings on power there but also much brighter lighting in the arena."

The project at T.G. Smith centre is estimated to cost $95,000 with completion expected in mid-August.

Siemens notes there was one individual who came in to clarify the $185,000 Clearwater Avenue sidewalk project, expected to be completed this summer.

As well, he notes Brenda Brown from the Steinbach Headway program, which works with disadvantaged youths, came in to give an update on the program and how well it's working in the community.

"Success doesn't come overnight with these kids, often it's been years in the making, the issues and the problems they're looking at facing. Headway is there to provide support and direction."
