“I would like to welcome you here, to Niverville High School, it’s the very first day for everyone so it’s kind of exciting.”

Principal Kimberly Funk welcomed the school’s first-ever students during an assembly this morning. She says the day will consist of team-building, tours, and getting comfortable in the new space.

Some students like, Jefferey Bergen, got the sense they were part of something much bigger than simply another first day of school.

“I think we all feel like we are part of Niverville history,” he says,“ I think school life is going to be very different in this school because it is a new environment.”

That new environment Bergen is referring to caused much awe and astonishment as students walked through the doors for the first time.

“It’s really big, and nicer than I expected,” remarks Grade 11 student Kaity Hiebert. “I don’t know why I expected it to not be this nice, but it is and it is definitely a good change.”

Bergen says he shares a similar sentiment: “I took a look all around the school and my mind was honestly blown.”

Both Bergen and Hiebert immediately noticed the amount of space available. In what was formerly called the Niverville Collegiate, Hiebert says it was so tight one could hardly walk through the hallway without hurting someone. Now, with more hallways and two full floors, she feels the new school is barely comparable.

As different students toured the schools various items caught their interest. Some were drawn to the large two-room science lab, others to the myriad of sitting areas within individual classrooms, and still others to the touch-sensitive wall monitors in every room.

“I think students will have more of a will to learn,” comments Bergen, “it doesn’t feel like normal school anymore, everything is happy and exciting and I think it is going to stay that way for a long time.”
