Winnipeg Police say they were called to a motor vehicle collision near Broadway and Memorial Boulevard Friday evening at 9:50 PM.

The initial information was that a westbound Jeep Patriot had driven through a group of protesters that were part of the Freedom Convoy at the Legislative grounds.

The Jeep fled west down Portage Avenue, where numerous witnesses reported it travelling at high speeds and passing through red lights.

With the assistance of the RCMP, WPS officers were able to stop the vehicle in the 4800 block of Portage Ave. at approximately 10:30 p.m. The lone male driver was arrested after a brief struggle.

The Jeep struck four adult males. Three sustained minor injuries that did not require medical attention. The fourth was treated in hospital and released.

A 42-year-old male from Headingly, Manitoba, faces charges of:
- Assault with Weapon x 4
- Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance Cause Bodily Harm x 2
- Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance
- Fail to Stop After Accident Knowing That Reckless x 2
- Fail to Stop at Scene of Accident x 2

He was detained in custody.

Organizers of a protest at the Manitoba Legislative Building say that four people were taken to hospital on Friday evening after a vehicle struck them on Broadway Ave. in Winnipeg.

A video posted to social media, and shared below, shows vehicles slowly moving down one lane of Broadway Ave. while protesters stand along the side of the road and in another lane. Around the 40-second mark on the video, a white vehicle pulls out from behind a truck and into the other lane of the roadway. It then accelerates forward and can be clearly seen driving over one person.

Protest organizers say that four people were run over and taken to hospital. Organizers also say the driver of the vehicle was taken into custody by the police.

The Winnipeg Police Service is expected to release more details today. Protest organizers also say they will release an official statement today.
