The Grey Cup champion Winnipeg Blue Bombers will open the 2022 CFL season at home against the Ottawa REDBLACKS on June 10th. The 2022 season will return to the full format of 18 games after an abbreviated 14 game schedule in 2021. There will be three bye weeks for each team with the regular season ending on October 29th. The 109th Grey Cup is scheduled for Sunday, November 20th in Regina.

Five teams have qualified for the Championship Pool at the Provincial Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Carberry. Kristy Watling of Assiniboine Memorial (4-0), Tracy Fleury of East St. Paul (3-1) and Kaitlyn Jones of Assininboine Memorial (3-1) advanced from the Black Group. Darcy Robertson of Assiniboine Memorial (4-0) and Kristy McDonald of the Granite (3-1) have qualified out of the Red Group. The final spot will go to either Mackenzie Zacharias of Altona (2-2) or Beth Peterson of Assiniboine Memorial (2-2). Zacharias and Peterson meet on the 1 p.m. draw and the winner gets the sixth and final spot in the Championship Pool.

Canada picked up its first win at the Channel One Cup in Moscow. Eric O’Dell and Morden’s Chay Genoway scored 75 seconds apart late in the second period as Canada downed Sweden 3-1. Brandon Gormley also scored for the Canadians who will play their final preliminary round game Saturday against Finland. Canada lost its opener 4-3 to host Russia on Wednesday.
