Eastman's 2016-2017 season came to an end one week ago in Shoal Lake when McKiya Mazur scored in double overtime to lift the Yellowhead Chiefs past the Selects 3-2 in the deciding fifth game of their Manitoba Female “AAA” Midget Hockey League quarterfinal.

"In the first overtime we outshot them 8-3," said Eastman head coach Bill Bram. "We had our chances. You know hockey, an inch here or there. You have to have a little bit of luck with you. Both teams were pretty even."

"It was disappointing but I was very proud of the kids," added the Selects bench boss. "We didn't give up, especially in their rink. They had last change. Everybody came to play and that's all you can ask for."

It was an extremely successful season for an Eastman team that hadn't seen a playoff win for a long time.

"This Eastman organization, as far as the girls go, it's been growing in the last couple of years," Bram said. "This is my second year. I inherited a team that only won two games the year before and this season we went over 20."

Bram also pointed out that the future of the hockey team is very bright.

"We only lose four girls. Those four are going on to either U.S. Colleges or CIS. We have a very good group returning and some very good prospects coming up. I think Eastman is on the rise and it looks promising in the next couple of years."

Those four players who finished their Selects careers are captain Lauren Warkentin who will play for the University of Manitoba Bisons this fall. Paige Dundas, who will play for the Post University Eagles which is located in Waterbury, Connecticut. Kellie Monro will attend King's College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania and Michaela Hamm will play for the Spartans at Aurora University which is located 45 minutes west of Chicago.
