The Hanover School Division says their 2020 grads will be given a ceremony to remember despite current COVID-19 complications.

“We will find a way to celebrate with our graduates,” insists Assistant Superintendent Shelley Amos. She acknowledges the challenges posed by the pandemic-induced school closure but says the division is adamant that its graduates go out with a bang.

“We will find a way to have them wear their cap and gowns, get their picture taken, and celebrate with their peers, just as we would have if we were in session,” she says.

The division recognizes Grade 12 graduation as a significant academic milestone and feels like it should be commemorated as such.

If school resumes by June, which Amos admits is wishful thinking, graduation will carry on as per usual. If not, she says senior years principals are already calling venues, setting dates, and making backup plans for early fall.

“The timeline may be a little off,” she states, “but we’ll find a way to do it.”
