With summer-like weather in the forecast, many families will be spending time outside and local parks have been and will be very busy, especially during these restrictions. As well, parks are a public place where one can meet up with others in small groups. And so, we become keenly aware when vandalism has taken place and picnic tables and bathrooms aren’t available for use.

Jason Peters, with the Hanover Parks and Rec, says, it’s because of this week's vandalism, that the Mitchell Park bathrooms will be locked till the damaged washrooms are repaired.

“This is something we deal with every year.”

Peters says, there is extensive damage to the park near the Mitchell Arena, in particular to the washrooms.

He says, “We had some people break in, smash the padlock, the lock mechanism to get in, and smash the urinals.” There was also damage to picnic tables among quite a list says Peters, which also includes the stairs to the Winter Tobogganing Slide.

light bulbs smashed with a rock. And, he notes, this sort of activity happens in all five RM of Hanover communities.
