A valve failure at one of the pumping stations caused a slight drop in water pressure for some areas of Steinbach Wednesday morning.

Water Works Department Head Mike Heppner says the pressure decrease was between 15-30psi and lasted for about 30 minutes.  He says this kind of thing is certainly an anomaly and the problem was quickly fixed.

He adds they are now using a direct-to-distribution pump flow system with the water tower temporarily offline for painting. The tower was drained to prevent 'sweating' or condensation formation during the painting process.

With the tower, he states the painting of the tower is coming along quite nicely.

It is currently a 'cream' color due to the intermediate coats of paint being applied.  Heppner says there are two intermediate coats before the final coat of light blue is applied.  Crews will also be painting the word 'Steinbach' on the east-facing side of the tower.

Once that is finished, the city will refill the tower.  Heppner explains it typically takes 6-8 hours to fill the tower to its 400,000 gallon capacity.
