The Seine River School Division has an enrollment increase of 168 students, compared to September 30th of last year.

Superintendent Mike Borgfjord says they have a total of 4,279 students in the division which may change by one or two. “As of right now we are still going through our data for this year, we are up a little more than 4% over last year at this time.”

Borgfjord says the La Salle school is up 27 students. He adds that school is waiting for a portable classroom, with plans for a new school construction or a new permanent space for the community. "They have a big increase, and still remain a big concern as far as space.”

Kindergarten numbers are up as well as the numbers in all three of the high schools in the division, says Borgfjord. “We are working on the 20 K-3 program, most of our classes are 23 students and lower. We struggle a little bit in this area, and are about 56% compliant.”

Borgfjord adds they're excited about the start of the school year. “The staff is working hard, and it's nice to have enrollment pressure and enrollment growth.”
