Steinbach RCMP have released details from a break and enter last month in Steinbach that eventually led to the suspects ramming a police cruiser before fleeing on foot.

Police say in the early morning hours of June 30th, Steinbach RCMP were dispatched to a break and enter at a residence along Second Street in Steinbach. According to police, the suspects had entered the residence while the family was asleep. 

While inside the residence, several items were stolen, including the purse of one of the victims. The purse contained keys to a truck that was parked on the driveway. The suspects then stole the truck and fled the scene.

A short while later, Steinbach RCMP located the truck in Mitchell and attempted a traffic stop. The suspect then rammed the police cruiser and fled the scene. The truck was located later but the suspects had fled into the bush.

Police Dog Services was contacted and attended. After tracking through the bush, one of the suspects was located. The suspect was arrested without incident. The second suspect was located shortly after and arrested without incident.

Kelly Ann Martha Toews of Steinbach was arrested and remanded into custody. Toews has been charged with assault on a police officer with a weapon, flight from police, mischief over $5000, mischief under $5000, break and enter into a residence, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime over $5000, possession of break-in instruments and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Kimberley Sawatzky of Steinbach was arrested and remanded into custody. Sawatzky has been charged with assault on a police officer with a weapon, flight from police, mischief over $5000, mischief Under $5000, break and enter into a residence, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.
