Propelled by a passion for children’s education, Mary Yoder has decided she wants to represent Niverville, Bothwell, Kleefeld, and Crystal Springs as a Hanover school trustee in Ward 1.

Referring to some data pulled from the 2016 Pan-Canadian Assessment Program, Yoder explains that the comprehension of math, science, and reading among Manitoba students is considered the lowest in Canada. While Yoder is uncertain of Hanover’s placement within those statistics, she believes the division can buck the provincial trend.

“I would like to be a part of making Hanover School Division stronger academically,” says Yoder who wants to ensure Hanover students are equipped to succeed far beyond the walls of its schools. “We have to back these children with as much strength and support as we can so that one day they are able to find employment and build lives they are proud of.”

Yoder believes that a student’s success directly correlates to their security. If she is elected this coming October, she wants to take steps towards minimizing all forms of bullying and making the atmosphere of Hanover School Division welcoming to all students despite orientation, race, or gender.

“I have a pride in our division, a passion for our students' futures, and an appreciation for the professionals who work really hard to invest their time and energy into schools,” exclaims Yoder. In the case of her election, Yoder wants to focus that energy on maintaining the upward trajectory of academics she feels the division already has. With past employment as the Field Education Coordinator at Providence College and as a substitute teacher in Hanover, Yoder says she is equipped to help the division accomplish these goals.
