Once again, Steinbach’s annual Traffic Count Study showed that Loewen Boulevard and Highway 12 is the intersection in greatest need of an upgrade.

Steinbach City Councillor Michael Zwaagstra says over the last few years, Steinbach has worked with the province to upgrade almost all of the intersections along the Highway 12 corridor improving the traffic flow. Now that all of the other intersections have been rebuilt, Loewen Boulevard is left as the intersection with the greatest wait times.

"It is an unacceptable level of service, people are waiting 9 or 10 minutes on average when turning in certain directions during peak traffic times," says Zwaagstra, "We are choosing to send this report to the province and we are asking for Loewen Boulevard to be a top priority for being improved with dedicated turning lanes."

According to the traffic study, eastbound vehicles on Loewen Boulevard are currently waiting an average of over 9 minutes during peak traffic hours. For comparison's sake, westbound vehicles on Park Road turning left onto Highway 12 have the longest wait times at that intersection averaging 67 seconds.
