The Steinbach Pistons continued to roll as they downed the Winnipeg Freeze 4-1 on Friday night to extend their winning streak to three games.

Early in the first period, the Pistons controlled much of the play. They put some good quality shots towards the net but couldn't bury.

As the period went on, the Freeze started to push back. They hustled around the ice and put the Pistons on their heels at times with their hard work.

A scary moment near the midway point of the period as Pistons star forward Quinton Pepper went to make a hit but missed his man and appeared to injury himself on the play. Pepper went down and took several minutes to get up. With help from Jeff Eidse, Pepper was eventually able to make his way to the locker room but did not return to the game.

Steinbach managed to break through with just over five minutes to go in the period as Zach Power took a pass from Bryce Kilbourne and hammered a puck through the Freeze goalie and in to grab a 1-0 lead. For Power, it's his fifth goal and extends his point streak to 11 games.

In the second period, Steinbach picked up their pace and generated a number of solid scoring chances.

A complete line effort earned the Pistons their second goal.

An offensive zone face-off win managed to get the puck to the point. The defenceman fired a pass across the blueline, finding the stick of Jackson Betcher. As Betcher fired it towards the net, Braden Birnie cut a path to the crease and manged to get a tip on the shot. The deflection was stopped but Travis Hensrud was there to pot his 15th of the season, making it a 2-0 game.

A bit of penalty trouble followed Steinbach throughout the second period and with under five minutes to go, eventually bit them as the Freeze scored to cut the lead to 2-1.

Hensrud would give Steinbach some insurance in the opening minutes of the third as the scrappy forward blocked a shot in the Pistons zone, broke in all alone and fired home his second of the game and 16th of the season. The 3-1 goal was unassisted.

Winnipeg pushed to find offence but some strong team defence and timely saves from Will Hambley kept them down.

With the goalie pulled, Birnie forced a turnover, flipped a pass to an open Power who broke in alone with the yawning cage as he buried his second of the game and 6th of the year to put the game away, 4-1. Birnie and Josh Nelson picked up assists on the final goal of the game.

Steinbach improved their record to 30-9-2-1, good for top spot in the MJHL.

Hambley finished the game with 26 saves. His 19 wins are second among MJHL goalies.

The Pistons power play finished 0-1 while their penalty kill was put to work and finished 5-6.

Up next for Steinbach is a home game on Sunday against the Winkler Flyers. The TG Smith Centre is now allowed 50% capacity.

The game will be broadcast on MIX 96 and SteinbachOnline.com with the pre-game show at 6:45 pm and puck drop at 7:00 pm.
