Runners crossed the finish line at the Manitoba Marathon on Labour Day Sunday in Winnipeg for the first time since Father's Day of 2019.

Close to 3,000 runners registered for the 43rd Marathon which was cancelled in 2020 because of COVID and then postponed this year until the September long weekend.

Brian Walker of East St. Paul and Nicole Walker of Winnipeg were the men's and women's Marathon champions for 2021. Brian Walker finished in a time of 2:29:24 while Nicole Walker was 2:52:55.

Steffan Reimer of Blumenort put his name in the Guinness Book of World Records. Reimer dribbled a basketball for 26.2 miles in a time of 2:50:33 shattering the previous record by almost 10 minutes. He finished the Marathon in seventh place. Gord Funk of Steinbach crossed the finish line in ninth place at 2:54:48.

Robyn Mccormick of Niverville was the third fastest woman, finishing in 3:18:42, while Jaala Van Dongen of La Broquerie was the fifth fastest woman at 3:24:42.
