Many home runs and strikeouts will take place this weekend as the city of Steinbach hosts the biggest provincial softball tournament they have ever seen.

According to the president of Steinbach’s Umpires Association, the annual Softball Manitoba U-14 ‘B’ Girls Provincial Championships has brought around 450 players and their families here into the southeast.

Mike Klassen says this will knock their average tournament attendance out of the park.

“Usually we have between 20 or 28 teams, but this year, in particular, we have 41 teams in Steinbach,” states Klassen, “We are using 4 diamonds at A.D. Penner Park and we even had to send some teams to use the diamonds in Friedensfeld.”
