The MP for Provencher is trying to get a potentially life-saving drug approved by Health Canada but is hitting a wall.

Ted Falk says he has been in communication with various Cystic Fibrosis patients across his riding in southeastern Manitoba who have indicated that the ability to access a new drug called Trikafta might mean the difference between life and death. Especially during the added threat of COVID-19.

Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is a progressive respiratory disease that can significantly decrease a person’s lung capacity. When combined with the novel coronavirus, another respiratory illness, CF can easily be fatal.

“It’s about the money. This drug is an expensive drug. The list price for this drug is about $311,000 US dollars per year per person and I don’t know if our government is willing to pay that kind of money.”
