A dog in Ross has been labelled 'dangerous' by the Rural Municipality of Tache.

Mayor Justin Bohemier says it was brought to their attention by their Animal Bylaw Officer that a dog in Ross was acting aggressively. The officer had received numerous complaints from a neighbour about this dog coming onto their property.

(Tache Mayor Justin Bohemier)Bohemier says he doesn't know the exact breed, but says it is part Lab. He says nobody has been injured by the animal, but there is video evidence of the dog acting in an aggressive manor. This video was played for council Tuesday at a public hearing.

"They were having a lot of trouble getting out of their car, into their house," says Bohemier. "The dog would run over and it looked like there was no control over the animal. The animal was not restrained in any which way and it happened quite a few times."

As a result, Tache council has asked the owner to register the animal as a dangerous dog. It must be leashed at all times and remain either in an approved kennel or inside the house.

"It's unfortunate that it had to come to this because if the dog would have been leashed up the whole time I don't think there would have ever been a problem," says Bohemier.

According to Bohemier, the dog's owner tried debating the actions of her pet. But, he says the footage clearly shows what happened.

"If you can't get out of your vehicle in your property and walk into your house safely without a neighbour's dog lunging at you then it is what it is, we have to act on it," he says.

Bohemier adds the owner appears willing to cooperate.

"We really hope that this is the last time we see them," he says. "It's unfortunate that this has to happen between neighbours but we have to look at the safety of all residents."
