The Chief of the Tache Fire Department is very pleased with the community support shown Saturday at their annual fundraising pancake breakfast. Allan Rau says despite the rainy weather, many people came to the fire hall in Landmark. He notes in addition to raising money for extra equipment, the open house is a great opportunity to connect with members of the community, especially children.

"It's a big thing, trying to get children to be involved and understanding through things like fire prevention week and through our pancake breakfast. We put some activities together for them and it just gives them enlightenment about what we do and they're not scared of us when we do show up."

Rau says they raised about $7,000 Saturday which will go into their fund to buy a new hydraulic rescue tool, something they hope to acquire later this year.

Meanwhile, he says thanks to residents for cooperating with the fire ban earlier this year.

"We had one grass fire through that entire period. We're back down to our normal fire restriction, Level One, so people can have backyard fires, open fires and brush fires - as long as they advise us when they're doing that. But we did quite well (with the burning ban during the dry spell) compared to some other municipalities."
