The board of the Jake Epp Library has asked Steinbach city council for a larger than usual grant increase in 2007.
Chair Heidi Reimer says they'd like 7 per cent instead of the usual 3 per cent. 7 per cent translates into about $16,000.00.
Reimer says the money is needed to bring staff salaries up to par. She notes the library employees work very hard in a cramped space and deserve a raise. City councillor Roy Enns, who serves on the library board, feels the message got a sympathetic ear from council although no promises were made. Mayor Chris Goertzen says council will make a decision at its study session in late January.
