A 42-year old man from Steinbach is facing numerous charges after damaging an RCMP cruiser over the weekend.

Staff Sargent Davy Lee says officers were called to a disturbance on Eastwood Drive Friday night and took a man into custody.

"During transport from the scene to the detachment, the individual was fighting with police and eventually kicked out the window in the back of the police vehicle, one of the side windows.  He was lodged until morning because he was under the influence of alcohol.  In the morning, he was charged accordingly with resisting arrest, assaulting a police officer and mischief to a police vehicle."

Lee says none of his officers involved were hurt in the altercation.  He adds this is certainly not something they see everyday.

"It's very odd.  I don't know what prompted this individual to not cooperate with police.  Unfortunately some people just get a little bit out of hand I guess."

The estimated damage to the police cruiser is a few hundred dollars.

The unidentified man was released on a promise to appear.
