The Steinbach Fire Department was called to a garbage fire at a construction site just off Loewen Boulevard around 6:30 Tuesday evening.

Fire Chief Kel Toews says the fire was at 126 Maplewood Street.

"When we got there, at a construction location, somebody was burning excess material and garbage. We remind people that they are not allowed to burn any garbage or waste material at construction sites, it has to be brought to the landfill."

Toews says if the fire department arrives at a garbage fire and it is fairly small, they will generally just tell the people in control not to add anything to the pile and let it burn out. But if they are called to a large garbage fire, they will extinguish it.

In this case, the Steinbach Fire Department was able to quickly get the fire under control.
