Steinbach Christian School graduates celebrated their accomplishments with a drive-in ceremony and outdoor banquet on Friday.

For Valedictorian Angelica Sawatzky, the uniqueness of the event and end to the year is something that she cherishes.

“Nobody has ever graduated the way that we have,” says Sawatzky, “at least not in recent history. Every graduating year is special, but they’ve all had the same venues, the same process year after year, and I love that we get signs on our lawns, we get different venues and we just get to do it differently.”

Sawatzky’s gratitude does not end there as she proceeds to thank her teachers and school staff for working so hard to ensure she and her classmates received an unforgettable celebration.

Principal of the school, Emery Plett, was equally impressed with his staff, and followed that up with his synopsis of this year’s graduating students.

“We’ve got some really great leaders in our group, we’ve got some talented musicians, and we’ve got some kids who have been great at giving back into our school environment and even to some of the other kids in our building,” says the principal of the kindergarten to grade 12 school.

A shared enthusiasm is met by Sawatzky as she explains how the end of the year issues of online learning and separation from friends actually had an opposite affect.

“Despite all the obstacles that were thrown at us, we’ve really just come out of it strong,” she shares, “and I feel like we are a stronger class because of it, and that’s really special.”
