The RM of Ste. Anne will see many improvements in the year 2020.

According to Reeve Paul Saindon, ongoing development in the region is necessary to support the steady growth of the municipality.

Saindon says his RM is looking to expand their lagoon, build a new Public Works shop, and continue last year’s work of bettering local drainage. That, he notes, could be of specific importance if the spring flood is as bad as he anticipates. “Mother nature will decide if we did the right thing or if we will need to do a lot more.”

Facilitating industrial growth is another of Ste. Anne Council’s goals as they head into the new year.

“We are looking towards having more area developed for industrial usage,” says Saindon, “we are trying to establish the right place for the right industry.”

Saindon says several of last year’s initiatives will be carried over into 2020 as well. He says the community of Richer will see a roof installed over their renovated outdoor rink, the fire department will begin using its brand new rescue truck, and an organization called Rural Animal Management Services will enter their first full year serving the municipality's many pet owners.

2020 also marks Manitoba’s 150th birthday and Saindon says his RM will be partaking in the provincial festivities.

“The celebration is coming our way next spring and that ought to be interesting,” says the Reeve, “They are passing through Richer and other parts of the RM following the old Dawson Trail, Red River cart route.”

Whatever the year holds, Saindon is sure his council will be able to tackle it with the simple philosophy they have always held: “If it doesn’t work, we try to fix it and if we can’t fix it, we just change it. We are all on the same page going in the same direction.”
