A family in Ste Anne peered out their window the other night to see three vandals destroying their Christmas decorations.

Miranda Keele says the “seemingly intoxicated” strangers ruined an inflatable decoration and broke a number of Christmas tree ornaments.

“We didn’t care too much about the decorations or ornaments,” says Keele, “although the kids kind of did because they had collected them over the years.”

Keele says her kids got up the next morning to clean up the mess and were surprised to receive generous offerings. “We have had people offering us decorations. We’ve had multiple offers for new blow-ups for our yard.”

Keele says she is not upset at the intruders but would like an apology.

“People make mistakes, we’re human, and sometimes we use bad judgment, maybe that’s what this was. That’s why we have parents, and that’s why we live in a community that hopefully will keep us accountable for our actions and how to be better people.”

Keele reported the vandalism to the Ste Anne police officers patrolling that night, however, everywhere else in town remained quiet.

For Keele, the unfortunate incident does little to sway how she feels about her community.

“One set of people here made a bad choice, but the majority of our community has been very supportive.”
