The mayor of St. Pierre says the decision to move their municipal office into the former Manitoba Hydro building was a good one.

The Village purchased the building last year and with the goal of having their municipal office and public works shop all under one roof. Raymond Maynard says they are still doing the finishing touches but adds it’s nice to have the extra space.

"It was definitely a good move," adds the mayor, "the council chambers are bigger, everything is a lot nicer and the more important part is the staff have a lot of room and the public works and the office staff are now together. It makes communication a whole lot easier."

Maynard says their public works crew moved in last summer when they gained possession. He notes the new shop now allows them to store all their equipment indoors and adds their crew is thrilled with the new space.

He says they also have room to grow if they hire additional staff down the road.

"We also have an extra office so there’s room to expand. That extra office can house an extra employee or even, for instance, the EMO coordinator is going to be using the office occasionally just to be able to work on his stuff and keep all his files here."

Maynard adds the new building also gives them more room to store village archives. Space, he says, they were running out of at the old office.
