Police say a man from the Rural Municipality of Springfield was not hurt in a fatal collision Wednesday morning west of Winnipeg.

It happened at approximately 9:45 am along the Trans Canada Highway, in the Rural Municipality of Cartier, about 35 kilometres west of the city.

Police say a semi-trailer travelling west was stopped and waiting to turn north onto Cabot Road, when it was rear-ended by a van.

The driver, and lone occupant of the van, a 55-year-old man from Matlock, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the semi, a 21-year-old male from the RM of Springfield was not injured.

Alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the crash.

Headingley RCMP, along with a Forensic Collision Reconstructionist continue to investigate.
